I love to travel. Ever since I caught the travel bug a few years ago, I have been jetting off to here, there and everywhere. For me, travelling is about having fun and exploring new places.
Whether you are travelling solo, with friends or with your family, travelling should always be enjoyable. However, one thing that I have found that can ruin any trip is choosing the wrong accommodation.
It might sound a little odd, how can where you stay affect how enjoyable your trip is? But, believe it or not, it really can. That’s why when it comes to choosing accommodation for any trip, I would advise you to choose carefully.
To help you ensure that you always choose the right type of accommodation, here are a few things that I would suggest doing:
Do you want to go catered or self-catered?
The first thing that you need to consider is whether you want catered or self-catered accommodation. Consider where you and your travel group would be most comfortable, in a catered hotel, a self-catered villa or something in between.
If you plan on trying out all the local restaurants while you are away, getting full-board is not worth it. However, if you opt to stay in a hotel, you could get half-board and get your breakfast and lunch taken care of for you. Whether you opt for catered or self-catered accommodation is up to you, just make sure to think things through before you book.
Do you want to stay in a hotel or somewhere else?
Once you have decided on whether you want catered or self-catered accommodation, the next step is to decide where you want to stay. Do you want to stay in a hotel – catered or self-catered, or do you want to hire a villa or holiday cottage?
The type of accommodation on offer will depend on where you are visiting. If, for instance, you are planning a trip to France, you will have the option of all sorts of accommodation. From guesthouses and villas to fancy hotels, there are lots of options on offer. There are also lots of luxury resorts in France that are ideal for travellers of all ages, from gap year travellers to family groups. So if you are travelling to France and fancy staying near to local amenities, a resort is ideal for you.
The location is crucial
When it comes to choosing the perfect accommodation for you and your family or travel buddies the key is in the location. Before choosing accommodation, think about where you want to be located.
Ask yourself whether you want to be right in the center of the city or whether you would like to be a little further out. Consider whether you want to be within walking distance of the beach or other attractions, or whether it doesn’t matter.
Think about your accommodation in terms of the people on your trip, if you have kids with you, the closer you are to the local attractions the better. However, that being said, you don’t want to end up booking accommodation that is right behind a late night bar or worse, a nightclub.
Top tip: Always Google Map any accommodation that you are thinking of staying in before booking so that you know what the area is like.
To have an amazing trip, there are three things that you need to do. These are to choose whether you want catered or self-catered accommodation, pick the location and choose where you will stay. By taking the time to choose your accommodation carefully, you can ensure that your trip is as enjoyable as possible.
