New York City is known by many affectionate names. Some call it the Big Apple, some call it The City That Never Sleeps. Whatever you want to call it, it’s an amazing place that should be on everybody’s bucket list. That being said, New York isn’t somewhere you really go to chill out. With all of the hustle and bustle, it’s much better for people who like to be on the go, exploring and having fun. If you want to head to New York one day, here are some tips to help you survive a trip:
Keep Your Stuff Safe
New York is ridiculously busy, so make sure you keep your stuff safe when you go out. It could be a good idea to keep your money in separate areas over your body, rather than all in one place. Maybe having two wallets would be a good idea too. Keep bags on your shoulder and closed, and all of your valuables zipped away.
Do Your Research On Scams
Before you head to New York, do your research on scams to make sure you don’t fall victim to any. There are scams everywhere you go, but you don’t want to fall victim to one while you’re trying to enjoy yourself a place like this. For instance, when buying show tickets. Make sure the place you’re buying from is reputable. If something seems too good to be true, then it more than likely is.
Consider Giving Times Square A Wide Berth
Times Square is the busiest place in New York. If you want to avoid stress and snobby people, it could be a good idea to stay away. At least until it’s not so busy anyway! You shouldn’t miss times square, but if you go at the wrong time then chances are you won’t enjoy yourself.
Don’t Stop Walking
Never, ever stop walking where you stand or you’ll likely get shoved in multiple directions while being cursed at. People are always in a rush here, so be aware of that. If you do need to stop walking, then move to the side so you’re out of the way. It’s for your own good!
Never Wear Flip Flops
Wearing flip flops in New York is a bad idea. If you don’t fall over, you’ll probably encounter disaster some other way. Stick to training shoes or something that can help you get around quicker. There are all kinds of things to do in NYC, and flip flops just won’t be appropriate.
Know How To Get A Cab
Hailing a cab is an art form in New York. You need to stand at the side of the street, look straight ahead and get ready to stick your right arm out when you see one coming. Word of warning: never get in a black cab. It’ll charge you so much more! Stick to the traditional yellow cabs and you’ll have a much better fare.
Use Your Smartphone
Before you go and while you’re there, use your smartphone to get discounts on tips on what’s on that week. You’ll save a lot of money and have the best time!
Enjoy your trip!
