Give Back To Ghana. The Importance Of Staying Self Aware During Your Stay

Ghana is an amazing African country, filled with different cultures and life. Any trip there would be worth taking. If you haven’t been, don’t hesitate to. Even so, with such an amazing place, it’s important you treat it with respect. Of course, that’s true with anywhere we visit. Too often, we don’t take steps to help a community that shows us hospitality during our stay. Surely it’s time we gave a little back? Here are some ideas about how to give back everything you can during your Ghanaian stay.

The importance of reducing our carbon footprint when we go away should be evident. Flying is a huge contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. The least you can do is stay eco-friendly during your time away! Simple things, like walking instead of driving, will make a huge difference. You could even hire a bike and work on your fitness at the same time! This helps the environment and also allows you to see more of Ghana. This has got to be a bonus because it’s a country well worth seeing! Think, too, about using reusable bottles in an attempt to cut down on the amount of waste you produce!

One of the best ways to give back is to volunteer in Ghana. Take your pick from teaching, building and many others. There’s a volunteer opportunity to suit everybody. This is an amazing thing to do during your stay. It’s the perfect way to help the community that’s welcoming you. It’s also the perfect way to experience the culture in a complete way. You’ll meet amazing individuals. You’ll also be able to share life stories with people living a different life in every way. Most importantly, you’ll know that you’ve done everything you could! If you want to experience the real Ghana, don’t hesitate to sign up for a volunteer placement!

It’s also possible to make a difference in small ways. Supporting local businesses while you’re away is important. Just like any country, Ghanaian local business are always struggling against bigger companies. Instead of heading into the most convenient shop, or a shop you recognize, take some time to look around. It shouldn’t be hard to find the local shops near where you’re staying. Once you’ve found them, make sure to visit for the rest of your stay. This is an excellent way of putting your money into an important business. It’s also a great way to get to know familiar faces during your stay!

If volunteer work doesn’t appeal, but you still want to do your bit, give to local charities. A little research will show a variety of charities. From wildlife reserves to schools and hospitals, you’re sure to find a cause that appeals to you. With wildlife reserves and national parks, visiting them is often the best way to give them your charity! Make sure to be generous to the country that has made you feel so welcome!
